The overall importance of dividends should not be
overlooked when establishing an investment portfolio.
“Do you know the only thing that gives me pleasure? It’s to see my dividends coming in.”
-John D Rockefeller, the American industrialist and the world’s first billionaire
Although there is no such thing as “a sure thing” we at Wyverstone strongly believe that investors who accumulate shares in well managed companies with sustainable business that pay a steady, growing stream of dividends will be successful. These investors should be in a position to earn higher returns, have their capital potentially protected during market downturns, and their portfolios should experience meaningfully less volatility.
It should be noted that companies do not have a legal obligations to pay dividends on their common shares and some companies have had to cut, reduce or suspend the payment of their dividend for various reasons. Dividends can be set on a quarterly, semi-annually or annual basis and are subject to change at any time.
